Calibri: Sweet Songs of Love on the Wings of Joy

Hummingbirds hold a special place in our hearts. Together, our names -Caileigh and Brian- create the name Calibri, which is a variation of Colibri, the spanish name for Hummingbird.

The hummingbird, like all beings, is full of lessons for us. Here is one of my favorite:

One day a fire swept through the forest and burned down the homes of the animals. They were all bemoaning the destruction of their homes and wallowing in self-pity. Every one of them thought there was nothing they could do about the fire, except for one little hummingbird.

This particular hummingbird decided it would do something. It swooped into the stream and picked
up a few drops of water and went into the forest and put them on the fire. Then it went back to the
stream and did it again, and it kept going back, again and again and again. All the other animals
watched in disbelief; some tried to discourage the hummingbird with comments like, "Don't bother,
it is too much, you are too little, your wings will burn, your beak is too tiny, it’s only a drop, you
can't put out this fire." And as the animals stood around disparaging the little bird’s efforts, the bird noticed how hopeless and forlorn they looked. Then one of the animals shouted out and challenged the hummingbird in a mocking voice, "What do you think you are doing?" And the hummingbird, without wasting time or
losing a beat, looked back and said, "I am doing what I can."

I love the scene in Finding Nemo where the fish decide to pool their energy together and swim in the direction that breaks the net that traps them. No matter how small we perceive ourselves to be, we can make a big difference!

What a simple message. Everyone working together to make a difference. It may look so unlikely that a big difference will be made from just one being. Everyone does not believe it, but then that hummingbird flaps its wings and sends out its vibration of joy and hope. Then some support comes to the rescue. Eventually everyone realizes the hummingbird is not just singing it's own song, but inviting all to sing along. The Colibri sings that we are stronger together and we all play a part in the Uni-verse - the one song we are always singing together!

There is nothing else but now! The hummingbird moves its wings in a figure eight pattern, symbolizing the eternal movement of infinity and continuity. But sometimes life doesn't feel all that continuous and we get lost in our relative ideas of past and future. Luckily, the hummingbird helps us navigate them. The hummingbird can fly backwards, teaching us that we can go back, but only when it serves us. When we are caught in replay mode, we are making the past play NOW and that doesn't help. To make the past "right" now, we embrace it when it comes to mind. We see it fully and integrate it until we feel at peace and fall back into the grace of the present moment. In the now, there is no longing for a brighter future, there is simply being the light that shines forth naturally when we are present. When we numb out or get distracted, we need to be able to put on the breaks, stop, and change direction. The hummingbird is the only creature that can come to a full stop whilst traveling at full speed! This is the kind of awareness we need to notice when we are not in the now to bring ourselves back to what is happening!

We do not have to find ourselves stuck in time. Like the hummingbird flapping its wings 50 times a second, the power of our presence is such a high vibration that it is timeless. We are like a photon that is faster than the speed of light. Time neither speeds up or slows down, everything is 'just right' because we are present and not distracted by our thoughts and emotions taking us to the past or future. We have 100% capacity to be open and smell the sweetness of the flower and take in all life has to offer!

It's easy to say that this journey isn't all roses. But the hummingbird's song tells us it is! We just need to see it all as roses and find the nectar in the experience. The hummingbird constantly reminds us how even the tiniest shift in perception creates transformation and abundance very quickly. We become what we believe. I am eternally grateful to the hummingbird spirit for always bringing me back to the sweetness of love that is here always and forever!

Every being is singing that song right now through the vibrations we create with our words, thoughts and actions. The hummingbird reminds us to always be present when we are creating our song. In the NOW moment, we are not caught by the past or fixated on the future. Like the hummingbird hovering over a flower, we have the ability to be centered and see the beauty right in front of us! Then, we drink deeply the nectar of the now, the inherent joy within and all around us!

The Spiritual Messenger

The hummingbird, like all animals, is a spiritual messenger guiding us on our journey through life. Some people might see a hummingbird, and believe they are just seeing a hummingbird. But for those that know everything happens for a reason, the see the magic of it. My wife Caileigh and I have had many hummingbird synchronicities. A synchroncity is a connection beyond coincidence that reveals the deep connection between our inner and outer world. For example, in the spring when we would visit Caileigh's parents, her mother said she always knew when we were coming because a hummingbird would appear by the window!

Caileigh and I feel like these songbirds that have come to dance together to spread our song of joy to the world! With Caileigh and so many other wonderful things, the hummingbird is guiding us to embracing the joy that present themselves in our lives!

If you've ever watched a hummingbird fly, it moves lightening fast and can shift positions in an instant. This is the hummingbird telling us to be flexible with all of life's changes. This has certainly been the theme of my life as I transition to sound healing full time. Just like hummingbird is tireless in its pursuit for finding sweetness, I am staying on track to build my business and create my lifestyle while enjoying the process.
